Absolutely- the eating before parties is another great tip! Going in to these food-fraught social situations can be very challenging. Arriving with something in your stomach (especially some kind of protein!) and with the mindset of enjoying the people and the occasion can make a huge difference in how many calories you walk away with.

Great reminder. especially the hydration one. It is so easy to forget that one. I've also found that making sure to eat before going to parties helps. You may still pick at stuff but it's far less tempting.

I also like the healthy snack suggestion. In an office environment it is amazing how much "stuff" is scattered at every turn on the office - none of which is even remotely healthy. And after seeing the calorie counts ... It's really not worth it!

Thanks!

It really is mind blowing the interconnectedness of the body, and how many great opportunities we have to make a positive impact. Someone may need longer sleep hours following a one episode of sleep deprivation for one or more days in order to repay that 'sleep debt.' This is highly individual and depends on the severity of the sleep deprivation, quality of the sleep that is achieved, the overall health of the individual, etc. Most people unfortunately have chronic sleep deprivation, getting fewer than the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep per night. For those folks, it is very difficult to say how long it will take for their bodies to completely recover from this, some suggesting the need to add on 1-2 hours of sleep per night for sometimes months (again, depending on the previously mentioned factors). In general, the marathon sleep schedule we tend to adopt on weekends to repay the debt we incur over the course of the week, generally doesn't do the trick. Good nutrition, stress management, adequate exercise, and addressing underlying health conditions will definitely aid the process. Happy sleeping!!

It's amazing that something that would appear insignificant in the equation plays a role in our ability to lose weight - and is likely having other ramifications on our health that we don't even realize.

How quickly can your body react to a change in sleep patterns? Are there other things that a person needs to do to aid this process?

Thanks!
